The Original Elf on the Shelf company sells a Elf on the Shelf Boy and Girl Doll Plushee Set. This is great for younger kids. Sometimes these stuffed-animal like elves sit easier on shelves too!
The Elf on the Shelf Company does sell Boy Elf on the Shelf Kits and Girl Elf on the Shelf Kits. This lets you customize what your family prefers. We have done both boy an girl as we had an age gap between our older and younger kids. It was easy to do the switch.
