Gaylord National Christmas at the Potomac 2015
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year….” After last night’s visit to the Gaylord National, I really can’t get the jingle out of my head. Honestly, I think I might even be walking with a little skip in my stride.
Fall, winter, the seasons were not much when you live in Florida. We are thankful for new months, enjoy a Thanksgiving feast, and decorate the Christmas Tree, but our surroundings do not change much. Yes, everything has a tinsel, stores play jingles, Santa is found in the mall but we don’t feel the seasons, we don’t see the change in nature, the temperature doesn’t drop, a fireplace doesn’t flicker and honestly it’s hard to eat turkey and sweet potato casserole on an 80 degree day! That has changed with our move to Virginia. We have felt more in the spirit, but we stumbled upon a wonderful way to begin the season.
Visiting the Gaylord National was an amazing way to get into the holiday spirit. The resort and convention center are beautifully decorated. It’s hard not to feel festive when you marvel at more than 2 million twinkling lights around a 55-foot tree. Additionally, when visiting the nightly light show at Gaylord National’s Christmas on the Potomac, it snows inside and fountains dance beautifully in time to the muisc. Prior to the lighting of the tree, we also enjoyed a Kris Kringle Holiday Feast dinner with crab legs, roast beef, a meat and cheese bar and a beautiful and delicious chocolate fountain for dessert. If attending this year, also check out the Gingerbread Decorating Corner, The Elf on the Shelf® Scavenger Hunt and much more to get you in the spirit of the season!
A perfect topper to an already amazing evening, the resort has ICE! featuring Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town. This was like something I have never experienced. Visit two million pounds of hand-carved ice sculptures in 7 individual rooms. Castles, characters and 5 slides are housed in a 9 degree in-door exhibit. At the end visit The Frostbite Factory, a live carving zone! We could not stop taking turns on the slides – everyone went including me!
Learn how Santa Claus started giving toys to good girls and boys in the retelling of the classic television special, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Our ice sculptures and ice slides are fun for the whole family and part of Christmas on the Potomac at our at our National Harbor resort.
Truly it’s a family event to remember, my children could not saying “thank you!”
