Free Activities for Kids this Summer – Bowling, Skating, Movies

Summer has just started and I bet the kids are itching to do something, and so are you! Here are some activities that you can do for free with the kiddos this summer to keep them entertained and have fun!

Free Summer Roller Skating: Head over HERE and click on your state on the map to find a participating location near you. Not all states offer this free program.

Select the location near you and click on the green “Register for This Skating Center” banner. You will receive an email asking you to verify your email address. Your first set of passes will then be ready on Sunday of that week (read your passes carefully as most passes are only accepted at specific days/times and will vary based on the skating rink). You do have to pay taxes as well as the skate rental fee, which will vary by location.

Free Bowling During the Summer for Kids: Register your kids to receive FREE Bowling all summer long. Choose from hundreds of lanes through out the country. Grab two free games every day this summer!

Dollar Movies at Regal Cinemas:

These $1 movies run at 10am on Tuesday and Wednesday of the participating theaters. We like to plan to go to these with friends for even more fun! Check your theater to see exactly when yours start.

Some teachers are asking for playdough for the classroom. Our teacher actually asked for a parent to bring in playdough each month spreading it out throughout the the year.

We added vanilla and purple (red/blue) food coloring to the water. A lot of fun.

Play Dough

2 c. flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water (if you want to color it, add a few drops to the water BEFORE mixing)
4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tablespoons cooking oil
Mix dry ingredients in saucepan add liquid. Cook over medium heat until the mixture pulls from the side and forms dough. Knead for several minutes. Keep in air tight container in fridge. This will make a lot! Cut recipe in 1/2 or 1/4 to make less.

Head to Home Depot Saturday, May 4 from 9 am – Noon to build a Herb Planter! Open to kids 5-12 years old, you do not have to register in advance.

Here’s what to do:

Buy a version of Lion King or Lady and the Tramp starting at $11.99 such as The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride
and buy one more movie from the list that includes Secret of the Wings, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, Peter Pan and several more. I got The Great Mouse Detective (Two-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo) for $17.99

My total was $21.98 for both movies – pretty good!
