We understand that sometimes you just can’t get outdoors to enjoy the rain even though you’d like to. With the rain coming down outside, it’s not always easy to find something fun to do indoors.

But forget TV or video games—it’s time to get creative! Lucky for you, there are plenty of indoor activities to keep everyone entertained. Here are some ideas to help you get started: You can play board games with friends and family, build things out of Lego blocks or K’Nex pieces, read books together or paint pictures. There is also no shortage of craft projects that can be done by the whole family, such as making slime or tie-dye t-shirts.

In October we had my son’s second birthday. I was sure it was going to be a Thomas the Train party and so we purchased the most adorable 2 year old train shirt. In addition to my purchase, I did amazing research on making the perfect train party. I tend to do that. Posts that go up on my blog are because we are moving and I need moving hacks or because I am expecting a baby after a big gap in my children and need reminders of newborn tips. I digress…

The Construction Cake

So my son’s two year old birthday rolled around and after purchasing our train shirt, I went on a hunt to find the most appropriate cake at our grocery store (I am frugal, I wasn’t headed to a stand alone bakery.) The train cakes were not cute, so we settled on a bulldozer cake and thus our party went from a cute little train theme to a Constriction Party with a precious little boy in a train shirt!… I am proud to say, I didn’t care!

Now that the party is behind us, I decided to go ahead and get that Construction Themed Birthday Party on the blog because getting things done late work when you are mother of five!

These pretend play restaurant ideas are easy to print, which means that the kids can start creating their own restaurant area in the house (or outside!) right away. This fun and interactive game would also be great for a sleepover or a super cute addition to any playroom as well.

This is where the fun starts! Once everything is printed off, your little one can create their own restaurant as they see fit. You get to be the customer and choose food items from the printable menu and wait for your play food to arrive! Did you know? Memories are created when something different happens. Have you noticed how quickly the days and weeks fly by when you are in the same old routine. When you change up that daily routine and add in something different, you have created a memory in your child’s mind. It is a bump in the road on their walk of life and creates something they look back on – that can be good or bad. Why not create more bumps in the road that are good.
