Painted Plates Craft with McCain Smiles
You have seen from past posts how much we love homemade gift ideas. There of course is something “frugal” about a DIY gift but more importantly, there is something personal. The fall season is of course a great time to do these crafty things. The activities of the season can be costly and sometimes creating a gift from home not only saves money it can emphasize the importance of the season, spending time with family and creating and presenting a present that required thought and time.
We had fun making these painted plates and mugs with painter makers. While we made them for our family and had a little side fun creating a people food craft we could also eat, they also would be great gift ideas for the grandparents this holiday season!
Painted Plates Craft
Supplies:
- Painters markers
- Plain white plates/mugs
- Newspaper
Directions:
- Wipe off each plate or mug surface with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol and let air dry.
- Use your markers to draw fun pictures of your family – make sure to date them!
- Let your plates completely dry.
- Place your plates onto a baking pan and into the oven at 225° for 30 minutes (do not preheat your oven).
- Let your plates cool off completely, hand wash well before use.
In our afternoon craft activity we shared some McCain Smiles Fries. They are made with real potatoes and seasoned with sea salt. We added some ketchup for a yummy after-school snack while we crafted. I found the fries in the frozen section at our local grocery store.
If you are in a pinch, also check out the McCain 5 Minute Fries, also made with real potatoes but they only take 5 minutes to cook! For dinner, my family enjoyed the McCain Sweet Potato Fries. We served with Italian chicken and Brussels sprouts. Yes, my kids love Brussels sprouts – cut them up, season with salt, pepper and olive oil and toss in the oven for 1 hour at 350 degrees. You can serve either of these on your painted plates, I just suggest hand washing over using the dishwasher.
How does your family celebrate the beginning of fall together?
