Free Moving Printable | We’ve Moved!

Let me share with you, in the past two years my family and I have moved – TWICE. One was a cross country move (with movers), the second was moving four houses down (on the same street) while six months pregnant. I ~~almost~~ greatly prefer the cross-country move! There was nothing pretty about me walking up and down the street with a huge belly and a load of boxes (yes, protective readers, I know carrying boxes when pregnant is a no-no and I am happy to report, we had a healthy baby boy this past October.) Regardless, I learned my lesson that hot summer, with the worse abdominal cramping. We settled in our new home, though, and with a young baby at home, I am ignoring the boxes in the corner that never got unpacked.

Moving along (no pun intended)) moving so often has taught me some of the best lessons. In fact, I share many of those in our Top 50 Moving Hacks and Tips. A few of my favorites include creating garment bags for clothing out of garbage bags, place Styrofoam plates between breakable plates, reuse toilet paper rolls and egg cartoons and my favorite, color code your boxes based on rooms they need to go. Your movers, friends and family with thank you for this last advice. You all also appreciate not hearing the question, “where does this box go?” 100 times.

I also learned when you move often, no one has your address. This last Christmas, with a new infant in my arms, I worked hard to get Christmas cards out early so that friends and family could have our return address. I slipped inside these adorable “We’ve Moved” notes. You could also print these notes, take a cute photo like I did below and upload the image to your Facebook wall (assuming you have a private Facebook page.) No need for that address to be public.

12 Items Every Elf on the Shelf Mom Needs

If you are planning on doing the Elf on the Shelf tradition this year, you know you have many days of rearranging the elf ahead of you! Luckily, this can be a breeze if you keep certain items on hand. By keeping a stash of “elf supplies” within reach, you can be sure that you are always ready to put on a great display. Take a look below at 10 items every elf on the shelf mom needs, so you can be prepared this Elf on the Shelf season!

1. Marshmallows.

Mini marshmallows especially are great for making fake snow. You can also stick the elf in a mug of marshmallows to look like he is in a hot tub or bath. If you wish, marshmallows can even be used to spell out words or messages. See this Elf Marshmallow Bath idea.

2. Cotton balls.

Cotton balls make excellent snowballs. If you want your elf to look like he is ready for a snowball fight, tape one into his hand. You can also pull the cotton balls apart to make snow banks for him to hide in. We used them as bubbles in a bath tub! See the Rub a Dub Dub There’s an Elf in the Tub Idea.

3. Dry erase marker.

Let your elf on the shelf “scribble” mustaches onto the glass frames of family pictures. You can also make red noses or antlers with the dry erase marker. You can also use the dry erase marker on the elf’s face and it should wipe clean. Give him a mustache, perhaps? Take a look at our Elf Rudolph idea.

4. Mini note pad.

Sometimes the elves like to leave letters or notes. Keep a sticky notepad or notebook on hand so your elf can leave jokes and greetings. Add some more fun by using colorful markers, stickers, glitter pens, etc. See this Elf Shopping List idea.

5. Glitter or Sprinkles.

You can make a glitter trail for kids to follow to the elf. Glitter also comes in handy if anyone accidentally touches the elf and you need to “bring back the magic.” Just give him a sprinkle and he will be as good as new. We used sprinkles to make a “snow angel.” See our Elf Sprinkle Angel idea.

6. Gum drops.

These are fun for building little forts, writing out words with, and so much more. Keep some colorful gumdrops on hand so your elf can build and write with them. Take a look at our Elf Gum Drop Ball.

7. String or yarn.

Why not try hanging your elf from a light fixture or banister like he is climbing? String or yarn makes it easy as does a little tape. Take a look at our Elf Tire Swing idea. ” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>We used twine.

8. Felt sheets.

You can use crafting felt to make mini clothes for your elf, little skis, a surf board, a blanket, or all sorts of other props. Keep some felt on hand for these ideas and more. We created a blanket in this Elf is Sleeping idea.

9. Pipe cleaners.

Pipe cleaners can be turned into roasting sticks, used as ski sticks, or even just wrapped around the elf so he can be an escape artist. We used them as drum sticks in our band. Keep pipe cleaners on hand for all sorts of props. See our Elf on the Shelf Rock Band idea.

10. Doll accessories.

Grab a few doll accessories to keep on hand for your elf to interact with. Let it play dress up, have a tea party, or even play with dinosaurs, etc. Kids will love seeing the elf playing with their toys. Take a look at our Elf on the Shelf One Man Band idea. 11. A sense of humor.

Elf Takes the Garbage Out

Do you have a cute little recycle truck or garbage truck. Grab some black garbage bags and cut them up into 4″ x 4″ squares. Add some wadded up paper and tie them together to make mini garbage bags. Elf does his chores and takes out the garbage. You could use one of our Elf on Strike printables and add a note, “do your chores” for a child that needs to take out the garbage of another task!

There are other creative ideas for Elf taking the Garbage out. We found two cute ideas on Pinterest (Source and Source). In one case, Elf is actually taking the garbage out. In another case, the girl Elf doll puts the boy Elf doll in the garbage can. It looks like, for these Elf ideas, they used Mini Curbside Trash and Recycle Can Pencil Cup Holders.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Step2 Push Car

If there is any door you have seen me buy, sell and then buy again, it was our Step2 Push Car. It was a great ride-on for both my girls and my boys. Just when I thought I was done having kids, I sold our red push car and then bam, three more kids came! This car was not only a great substitute for our stroller (we brought it to all sort of sporting events and outdoor walks) but it also was great for keeping my kids in place – just click your child in place with an an easy click seat belt. As my girls aged, they rolled down the drive away seeing who could go the fastest and furthest. Of course the Step2 Push Car is also perfect for Elf!

Elf on the Shelf Ideas Outside

Sometimes when take my Elf on the Shelf Ideas outside, I leave a little hint to help the kids find Elf. Of course, watch the weather, because you don’t want your Elf on the Shelf outside on a day perception is coming. One example is when we turned our Elf on the Shelf into a parrot. Elf was munching at the bird feeder and we had feathers leading to outside so our kids could locate elf. For this Step2 Push Car (or whatever ride-on you use), you could have a little note on the door that says – “Beep, beep. Honk, honk!”
