Halloween Pizza Spider Webs

Get creepy and crawling this October season with this these fun Halloween Spider Web Pizza Snacks. Perfect for an afternoon treat or a fun dinner entree! It might even be a delight as a classroom party suprise.

Ingredients:

Pizza Sauce
Round Crackers, Sandwich Slim Buns and/or Pita Breads
String Mozzarella Cheese
Black Olives
Optional: Mustard

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375.
If using slim buns, seperate the halves.
Take your pizza bases (cracker, bun or pita) and cover with pizza sauce.
Take string cheese and open and pull into strings.
Take 4 strings and lay across the base like you would cut a pizza.
Cut more strings into smaller pieces to go across each “slice” of the pizza.
To make a spider, cut the ends off of 2 olives one slightly large than the other.
These 2 will be the head and body.
Cut 2 slices off of the already cut olive and cut those slices in half to make legs for the spider.
Place on spider on each pizza.
Place on cookie sheet and bake until cheese is melted (about 10 minutes).
You can optionally put eyes on the spider by dipping a toothpick in mustard and touching it to the head.

Halloween Twinkie Mummies with White Chocolate

How adorable are these? Have fun creating these Twinkie Mummies this Halloween Season. They are a perfect treat for the school party – not too scary too!

Ingredients:

16 oz White Melting Chips (White Chocolate)
6 Twinkies
12 Candy Eye Decorations

Directions:

Place Twinkies in freezer for at least 30 minutes.
Prepare a baking sheet or cutting board by covering with parchment or wax paper.
Melt candy chips by microwaving 30 seconds then stirring and repeating until melted.
Dip each Twinkie in chocolate and roll to completely coat.
Transfer to prepared paper.
Place 2 eyes in each Twinkie.
Allow to set for 3-4 minutes.
Lift each Twinkie to separate from paper.
Using a knife carefully trim excess chocolate that ran off of mummies.
Transfer remaining melted chocolate to zippered bag and clip corner to pipe/drizzle.
Drizzle chocolate back and forth across Twinkie (avoiding eyes) to get bandaged look.
Allow to set.

Halloween OREO Stuffed Spider Cupcakes (with a Hidden OREO!)

I love the hidden charm instead these cupcakes – a hidden OREO. Don’t tell the kids (if you are making it alone) and let them be suprised when they take a bite. Great for Halloween Parties! The recipe yields 24 cupcakes.

Cupcake Ingredients:

1 box Chocolate Cake Mix
1/2 cup Vegetable Oil
3 Eggs
24 OREO Cookies

Icing Ingredients:

1 cup softened Butter
2 tbsp Milk
4 cup Powdered Sugar

Spider Ingredients:

24 OREO Cookies
24 Rips Whips Candy Strings
48 colored M&M’s
1/2 cup Black Candy Melting Chips

Directions:

Bake cupcakes according to box directions except when filling cupcake liners fill halfway with batter place cookie in liner and finish filling.
Allow to cool.
Place black candy chips in corner of zippered sandwich bag and heat in microwave for 45 seconds. Gently massage to ensure it is melted and smooth. Clip tiny piece off corner of bag to pipe.
Make a black dot in the center of each M&M to be an eye.
Gently twist apart each OREO.
Cut each candy string into 4 equal parts.
Press each piece into icing to make 8 legs.
Pipe a little melted candy to act as glue and put top back on cookie.
Pipe a little melted candy on top to glue eyes in place.
Allow to cool and set.
Cream butter and vanilla in a large bowl.
Slowly add in the powdered sugar, and milk as needed, until everything is incorporated and frosting is right consistency.
Beat for 5 minutes to make sure it is fluffy.
Ice cupcakes then decorate tops with Spiders.

Halloween Frankenstein Twinkies – Green Monster Treats

How adorable are these? More fun with Twinkies this week (you might remmber our Twinkie Mummies) These little green monsters also make the perfect treat for a Kid’s Hallowen Party!

Ingredients:

12 oz Green Melting Chips
4 oz Black Melting Chips
1 Red Melting Chip
6 Twinkies
12 Candy Eye Decorations

Directions:

Place Twinkies in freezer for at least 30 minutes.
Prepare a baking sheet or cutting board by covering with parchment or wax paper.
Melt green candy chips by microwaving 30 seconds then stirring and repeating until melted.
Dip each Twinkie in chocolate and roll to completely coat.
Transfer to prepared paper.
using a toothpick, spear a mini marshmallow and dip in green chocolate to cover completely.
Postition marshmallow in middle of Twinkie to act as nose. Use another toothpick to loose marshmallow from first toothpick and to smooth out chocolate.
Using chocolate as “glue”, set 2 eyes just above the nose.
Place in refrigerator for 10 minutes to set.
Lift each Twinkie to separate from paper.
Using a knife carefully trim excess chocolate that ran off.
Melt black candy chips by microwaving 30 seconds then stirring and repeating until melted.
Dip top of each Twinkie in black chocolate to make hair.
Return to prepared paper.
Using toothpick method, dip 8 mini marshmallows in black chocolate to coat completely and place on prepared paper to use as neck bolts.
Place in refrigerator for 5 minutes to set.
Trim any excess chocolate that ran off.
Using chocolate as glue attach neck bolts to sides of Twinkies.
Take the one red chip and heat for 30-60 seconds until melted.
Using a toothpick, draw a mouth on each and draw the forehead scar.
Place in refrigerator for 10 minutes to set.

Copycat Chipotle Pico de Gallo

Bring the love of diced tomatoes, onions, and peppers over a chip with this easy and mild Copycat Chipotle Pico de Gallo. Pair with a side of Chipotle Lime Rice with Cilantro and a dish of our Copycat Chipotle Carnitas made with the Crock-Pot. Use the left overs for your child’s Back to School Taco Bento Lunchbox!

Ingredients:

3-4 Tomatoes, diced
1/2 Red Onion, diced
1/4 Jalapeno, diced
5-7 stems of Cilantro
Juice of 1 Lime
1/4 tsp Kosher Salt

Directions:

Remove leaves from the cilantro stems and discard stems.
Chop up cilantro leaves.
Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for at least an hour to allow flavors to marry.

We are bringing back an oldie but goodie recipe from our friends at www.simplysprouteducate.com. This week enjoy a seasonally Sweet and Fresh Blueberry Wrapup.

It’s just that, a lot of yumminess wrapped up into a crowd pleasing treat! If you’re lucky enough to live in a location with blueberry and strawberry patches nearby, we encourage you to take your children to experience the joy of picking their own fruit. What better way to show how the food we eat goes from the soil to the supper table!

Ingredients:

1 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup sugar
1 8oz container of cream cheese
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
1 package of crescent rolls

Preparation:

Cream together cream cheese, sugar and vanilla in a small bowl and set aside.
Wash blueberries and gently stir into cream cheese mixture. Open crescent rolls and align 7 of them in a pinwheel fashion, equally on a baking sheet. Use the 8th one to fill in any holes in the middle.
Spoon cream cheese and blueberries onto the middle of the crescent pinwheel that is formed. Carefully pull points of crescent rolls overlapping them over the middle in a criss cross fashion.
Bake in a pre-heated oven on 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

Green Marshmallow Treat Monsters – Halloween Frankenstein Rice Krispies

Ingredients:

3 tbsp Butter
6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
10 oz Marshmallows
Green Food Coloring
24 Candy eyes
12 Pretzels Sticks broken in half
1/2 cup Dark Cocoa or Black Candy Melting Chips
1/8 cup Red Candy Melting Chips

Directions:

In a medium to large saucepan, melt butter over low heat.
Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
Stir in enough food coloring to make the marshmallows very green.
Remove from heat.
Add Rice Crispies cereal and stir until cereal is well coated.
Prepare a 9 x 9 pan by spraying with cooking spray or coating with butter.
Butter a spoon or your hands or use wax paper to press the mixture into the pan evenly.
After cooling, cut into rectangles or squares.
Heat Dark Candy Chips in small Bowl by microwaving for 30 seconds stirring and repeating until melted. Allow to cool for 2-3 minutes.
Dip top of Bar (hair) in melted dark candy move back and forth for good coverage. Shake off excess.
Lay on wax paper.
Push a pretzel half in each side to make arms.
Using a tootpick, gather up some of the melted candy and place on back of eye and put in place. Repeat for remaining eyes.
Let cool until chocolate has set.
Heat Red Candy Chips in small Bowl by microwaving for 30 seconds stirring and repeating until melted. Allow to cool for 2-3 minutes.
Transfer red chocolate to small plastic bag and clip very tiny piece of corner to use for piping.
Pipe mouths on each.

Strawberry Lemon Cake

Looking for fun and yummy individual desserts. Enjoy this lemon, strawberry cake as you enjoy the last taste of summer. A local farmer’s market always lends itself to a great family outing. Point out seasonal fruits, like strawberries, to your children. Introduce your children to the men and women who grow food that we eat. This recipe combines the simplicity of a box mix with the sweetness of the end of a season.

Ingredients:

1 box lemon cake (oil, water and eggs as per package instructions)
oversized cupcake pan
strawberries
cream cheese frosting
lemon frosting

To make these mini lemon cakes use an oversized cupcake pan and your favorite lemon cake mix (why reinvent the wheel and spend all your time baking in the kitchen while your family is outside enjoying this beautiful weather, save time and use a mix). Follow package instructions for baking. Once cupcakes are done cooking let them rest on a wire rack to cool down. Once cool slice cupcakes in half and spread on a generous amount of cream cheese frosting. Cut strawberries into thin slices and layer onto cupcake. Place top of cupcake on and use lemon icing to decorate your mini cake. Get creative and use a piping bag to add a little flair to your frosting. Top your cupcake off with a strawberry. Filled with a burst of flavor, this delicious dessert goes well with vanilla ice cream and is sure to be a crowd pleaser this spring.
