Winter is the season of snowmen, hot cocoa, and, of course, The Elf on the Shelf pranks and shenanigans. If you’re looking for a delightfully humorous twist to add to your elf’s escapades, look no further than the “Melted Snowman” The Elf on the Shelf idea. This creative and easy setup will have your kids laughing and wondering just what kind of winter magic their mischievous Scout Elf is up to.
Materials Needed:
- The Elf on the Shelf Doll
- Cardstock or paper (this is the best cardstock which is perfect for your Elf printables)
- Scissors
- Marker
- Glass tray or shallow dish
- Water
- Two googly eyes
- Three black buttons
- A small carrot
Setting the Scene:
- Prepare the Glass Tray: Begin by placing the glass tray or shallow dish in a noticeable spot. This could be the kitchen counter, dining table, or any area where your kids are sure to spot it.
- Add Water: Fill the glass tray with a small amount of water. Just enough to cover the bottom and create the illusion of a melted snowman.
- Assemble the Features: Carefully arrange the two googly eyes, three black buttons, and the small carrot on the tray. Imagine the hilarity as The Elf on the Shelf attempts to reassemble a snowman who couldn’t withstand the warmth of the indoors.
- Scout Elf’s Apology Note: Place the note from the Scout Elf nearby, armed with a paper and marker. On the note, have the Scout Elf scribble a message such as: “I tried to bring a snowman back for you, but he melted.” This adds a touch of whimsy and explains the scene to your kids.
Adding a Touch of Magic:
- Positioning the Scout Elf: Carefully place the elf doll next to the glass tray.
- Optional Extras: Enhance the scene by sprinkling a bit of fake snow around the glass tray or even leaving tiny footprints leading up to the setup. These small details can add to the overall enchantment.
The Reaction:
As your kids discover the hilarious aftermath of the Scout Elf’s snowman escapade, their laughter and amazement will make The Elf on the Shelf idea a winter favorite. The melted snowman setup is not only funny but also a great way to encourage creativity and imagination in your little ones.
Remember, the magic of The Elf on the Shelf lies in the joy and wonder it brings to the holiday season. So, let the giggles flow, and enjoy creating lasting memories with your mischievous winter companion!

What is The Elf on the Shelf?
The Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and an elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Scout Elf’s visits. The Scout Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The North Pole friend has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror, or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, that the North Pole visitor is not touched each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special Scout Elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve.
