Northern Virginia Cox Farms Fall Festival

I grew up in the south. The south were we didn’t have rolling foothills, pumpkin patches, or trees changing beautiful colors. Since arriving in Virginia (we moved from Florida in 2015), one family tradition that I always look forward to is our annual visit to Cox Farms. In the past four years, we have never missed a visit to Cox Farms. For me, it signifies the start of fall and I look forward to the event every year!

It was so fun to see the festival this year through the eyes of our third child, Eli. He really runs the show, or drives the tractor as this picture would depict. We hit slides and did activities we had never done before. Featured are the firetruck slide by The Forest, riding the tractor (there are so many tractors to see, some from the early 1900s), and our favorite – the Hayride!

Create a family tradition

Cox Farms is DC area’s most famous fall festival. The festival began in the mid 80s and exploded in the 90s and has remained strong until today. I honestly have no way to describe it, other than exciting. I cannot compare anything in my childhood to how enjoyable this event is for our family each year. Since we first moved, we had two young girls. Now our family has grown to five kids and each year we see the event a little differently as the number of eyes we have grows. I admit, we still have yet to do everything that Cox Farms offers (and that is after four seasons of visits!)

The Fall Festival features everyone’s favorite attractions, including hayrides, giant slides, rope swings, the Cornundrum Cornfield adventure, the Imaginature Trail, Foamhenge, the Tractor Museum, and all sorts of farm animals and their babies. Our friendly goat herd welcomes you to Billy Goat Village, where you can visit and feed them. Each slide is themed differently, so you’ll fly out of castles, barns, and volcanos, exploring everything from dinosaur digs to mining towns to giant beanstalks.

This festival is for everyone’s budget

The Fall Festival has four tiers of admission: Discount, Value, Regular, and Peak. All four tiers include the same attractions, but you’ll pay less on our Discount and Value days, and more on our Peak days. On Discount days (September 24, 25, 26, 27, October 1, 2, 3, November 1, 2, 2018), admission is just $6 per person! Value admission (most weekdays, not including Indigenous Peoples Day, plus our first and last weekends of the season) is $10 per person. Regular admission (September 22, 23, 29, 30, October 27, 28) is $15 per person. On our busiest and most popular weekends in October (October 6-8, 13-14, 20-21), Peak admission is $20 per person. These pricing options allow visitors to save by planning their visit on a non-Peak date. For folks in search of a deal on October weekdays (not including Monday 10/8) after 4 PM, $5 “Last Call” tickets make those after-school visits a bargain – imagine the kids delight when you pick them up from school and tell them they get to visit a festival to blow off some steam – my kids would love that!

Look at these traditions. This is me pregnant with Eli (left) in 2016 and again pictured with Max & Henry (right), our twins, in 2017. When you leave the festival, everyone gets a free pumpkin! It was so pleasant to not be carrying my own pumpkins the entire festival this year (pun intended!)

It’s back, the Fields of Fear

When the sun sets and night falls, there is something for the older crew or those that like a little fright! Cox Farms is celebrating TEN YEARS of Fear. The Fields of Fear is on Friday and Saturday nights September 21-November 3 with a “Bonus Night” on Sunday, October 7. The Cornightmare got a total overhaul, with almost all new scenes and tons of new scares. Cornightmare joins our two other haunted attractions, Darkside Hayride (featuring The Lost Circus) and The Forest: Back 40. The Firegrounds feature several bonfires, a six-lane slide, music, karaoke, entertainment, tasty treats, Foamhenge, and more!
