Snack Boards Ideas
When the kids were in school, it was so easy to fill their lunch account and trust they were getting fed (enough). Now that we are in an endless year of virtual school, I have to work all the harder on getting their bellies full. Those bottomless pits!
What is a snack board?
A snack board is a less fancy way to describe a Charcuterie (pronounced “shahr-ku-tuh-ree”) board. It is the art of preparing and assembling cheeses and cured meats. With a snack board you can get creative and are not limited to cheeses and meats. Create snack boards for adults, kids, holidays or even small parties and gatherings.
Snack boards are a budget-friendly way to feed one person or a crowd. Get creative with pantry items or store bought foods to display on platter or board. It’s a very attractive way to style food. Use fresh and dried fruit, cheese crackers, hard and soft cheese, prepared meat, and then get creative with other fixings like candy, popcorn, cookies and more!
What do I need to make a snack board?
Snack boards are beautiful but can be intimidating to the eye. They almost look too pretty to eat and where do you get started. Many of these snack board ideas come with a list of exactly what you need to buy to make a board. You might be asking yourself how to make a snack board.
First, plan your menu. Make sure you have a list of salty, sweet, fresh, and cheese (just a few ideas.) Have glass bowls for smaller items (like popcorn, fruits or nuts) as well as dips. Use a small bowl as larger bowls can be overwhelming unless you only have one.
In addition to bowls, you will need a board. There are many types of boards. Rectangular, circle, square – all shapes and sizes. I really love wooden charcuterie boards – it is always nice when the board has a raised edging keep food from falling off the edge. A wooden cutting board is fine, but since you are using it for display, I would make sure it is in decent shape.
