The original Scout Elf set does not come with a DVD movie. However, you can buy Elf on the Shelf boxed set with a DVD as a bonus. You can also buy the DVDs individually.

The supplies are simple. To put together this cute movie idea for Elf, grab the following (optional) supplies.

• The Elf on the Shelf Doll

• Elf on the Shelf Movie

• Straws

• Tape or hot glue

• Popcorn

• Scissors

• Printer paper (I prefer cardstock)

Directions

Print the Elf on the Shelf Movie Night printable cards on paper (or card stock) and cut out each card along the border.

To create a sign for the Elf to hold, hot glue the card to the top of a paper straw. You can also attach the cards to the front of the popcorn containers with tape.

Add the microwave popcorn and movie candy to the inside of the popcorn containers.

Viola. You have staged a quick and easy Elf idea. I bet that Elf idea took under 5 minutes.

At Frugal Coupon Living, our goal, to create an easy Elf on the Shelf season for you. This is not our first year of having an Elf in the home. What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Did you know the North Pole is rather cold? I know, I know. Obvious question. However, while many understand the North Pole is rather cold, they don’t always recognize that elves love the sun. Visiting their host family during the holiday season is a great time to de-thaw, take an elf beach vacation, or pull out the fake and bake.

If you are looking to give your Elf beach props, consider this funny s-ELF tanning kit. Add a desk lamp and some sun shades (Barbie sunglasses are great for this) and you are all set to complete this quick and easy idea for Elf.

Punny Elf Self Tanning Kit

No, we didn’t misspell funny. This cheeky elf idea is rather punny and plays on the phrase self-tanning kit. Instead of tanning spray, we use Cheese Whiz and cheese balls for the best orange tan ever!

Pun: a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words which sound alike but have different meanings.

Supplies

Who doesn’t love a few holiday elf props you can eat later? If you’re a faux cheese eater (wink – wink), this adorable idea is for you. Gather the following supplies for your witty visitor.

• An Elf
• Towel
• Beach Props
• Cheese Balls (we use Utz Cheese Balls)
• Canned Cheese Spray  (we used Kraft Easy Cheese)
• Self-Tanning Kit Printable Set (see below)
• Printer paper
• Printer
• Scissors
• Tape or Glue

Directions

It’s time to pull this Hilarious Idea into motion. First, you will need to download your funny Self Tanning Kit printable.

Once you complete your purchase and download your PDF file, print it from your home computer or (print at Staples.) For reference, I printed mine from my home computer and they still gave me though bright, eye-catching pops of color.

Next, cut out your labels. Use a glue stick or double-sided tape to attach the labels to your canned cheese spray and container of cheese balls. I actually wrapped the labels around both cheese products and tabled them on the back side of the item.

Stage your Elf in a fun relaxing position on a beach towel.

Extend this Funny Elf Idea

You can always go a step further than we did with this fun idea. Using the tanning kit, incorporate some of these other easy and fun holiday elf ideas.

• Are you going on vacation? Elf can travel with you. Maybe he can bring a fun beach basket filled with things for the trip.
• Use this idea with our fun beach backdrop for Elf. You can add sandbox sand and some shells for a fun scene.
• Put Elf under a heat lamp, like a tanning bed. This can be done with a desk lamp.
• Add some Barbie and Ken Beach Clothes for Elf props. I used a surf vest from my 1980s Barbie accessories.

What are some other orange foods I can use?

Of course, if cheese in a can or small snowballs of cheese are not your thing, try some of these other orange foods to pull off your funny Elf idea. You will need to get clever for how you use the s-ELF tanning kit labels on these items, but it’s still doable.

Elf on the Shelf Superhero Over the City

With a few supplies and some creativity, you can easily re-create this Superhero Elf on the Shelf idea.

Supplies

• The Elf on the Shelf Doll
• Yellow and Black Construction Paper
• Scissors
• Tape
• Glue Stick
• Creativity

How to create Superhero Elf on the Shelf idea

Its not physically complicated to make a DIY Superhero Elf on the Shelf idea however it does require some creativity – so if you don’t have it, move down to places to buy superhero costumes or download Elf on the Shelf Superhero printables.

First start with the city. Create rectangles of black construction paper. These will be our buildings.

Next, use yellow construction paper to create small squares. These will be your building’s windows reflecting light in the night sky. Glue your windows on the black rectangles.

Layer your cityscape on to a surface area. This can be a wall, window, or (as we did) a chalk board. Your night cityline is done.

Next plan your super hero. You can use Batman, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, or other Marvel superheroes and DC characters.

Create a cape for your superhero. A triangle will do, have extra room at the top of your triangle to wrap around your Superhero Elf’s neck. Tape can connect your cape. You can even make a cute logo to the back of your Superhero cape.

Create a basic Elf mask. You can use a glue stick or tape to connect it to your Elf’s face.

Stage yoru Elf on yoru backdrop. Use tape to hold up the elf or grab a elf standing prop like an Elf stand.

Viola – You’re done. Now go save the world, super woman, and kick crime and mischief to the curb!

Tip: Expand this idea. Pair this fun superhero outfit with Superhero party ideas or superhero party games.
