From far away, it looks like someone is lounging on the couch reading The Elf on the Shelf book. But as you get closer, you’ll discover that it’s actually your family elf sitting inside the hoodie, holding the book up in front of his face. The stuffed clothes, including a hoodie, pants, and shoes, are filled with towels to make it look like someone is sitting there. The result is a fun and surprising prank that will leave your kids giggling when they spot the hidden festive scout!

How to Set Up The Elf on the Shelf Couch Reading Scene

This funny scene is all about creating the illusion that someone is sitting on the couch reading a book. The trick is to use your child’s stuffed clothes to make it look like a person is there, with the book held up to cover the “face.” But when you look closely, you’ll find your merry messenger sitting inside the hood of the hoodie, proudly reading away. 1. Start by gathering your child’s hoodie, pants, and shoes.
2. Stuff the clothes with towels or blankets to give them shape, making it look like someone is sitting on the couch.
3. Position the stuffed clothes on the couch, making sure the hoodie is placed in a way that the hood is facing up, as if someone is sitting there.
4. Place the book in front of the hoodie’s “face,” with the book held up as though the person is reading it.
5. Hide your family elf inside the hood of the hoodie, with just his head peeking out behind the book to complete the illusion.
6. Add the shoes at the bottom of the pants for an extra realistic touch.
7. Step back and admire your festive scout’s clever disguise as he sits “reading” on the couch, waiting for your kids to discover the hidden surprise!
